Winemaker Richard Shelton
While traveling the world and having wine experiences in Patagonia, Richard discovered his true calling was winemaking.
Born and raised in Texas, Richard completed a B.S. in Biochemistry and worked on protein modeling. While traveling the world and having wine experiences in Patagonia, Richard discovered his true calling was winemaking. Richard went on to earn a Masters of Enology at the highly acclaimed Roseworthy Program, at Adelaide University in South Australia. During his time in Australia Richard was privileged to work at the AWRI Research Winery at Waite Campus.
In his pursuit of knowledge, Richard worked wherever he could improve his winemaking skills. From Australia to Pennsylvania, where he learned to make traditional Ice wine, back to Texas where he worked with many fringe varietals. While in Texas Richard worked for Becker Vineyards.
Eventually Richard landed in California where he took a Winemaker position at Monterey Wine Company focusing on Central Coast fruit. At this custom crush facility Richard had the privilege to work with many Winemakers and a broad range of varietals.
From Monterey Wine Company Richard moved to Sonoma to accept a job with Kosta Browne who is well-known for its high performing winemaking team and exceptional wines. This gave Richard the opportunity to work with high-end Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast, Russian River and Santa Lucia Highlands.
In his current position as Winemaker for Magnolia Court Richard has the unique opportunity to produce wines grown on California’s beautiful Central Coast which express true varietal character.
